Food we’re proud of
When it comes to pet food, the most important things are expertise, consistent quality, and high-grade ingredients. We source our ingredients as locally as possible and only from partners we know and trust. We take care of the food, so Finnish families and their pets can focus on enjoying life.
We’re proud to build on a strong foundation developed through years of dedicated work in pet food. For us, responsibility is embedded in everything we do.
Ingredients
We carefully select every ingredient that goes into our products and we know exactly where they come from. We prioritize local sourcing and use domestic ingredients whenever possible. However, a Finnish origin is not always the best or most feasible option. Quality, availability, and supply reliability all factor into our ingredient choices.
Production
We manufacture our products as close to the consumer as possible. This helps us ensure that our familiar brand products are always available on store shelves.
A growing share of our dog and cat food is produced in factories located in Nokia and Mellilä, Finland. Our owner, Vafo Group, manufactures our pet food in these facilities.
Dagsmark’s chews and treats are made by Kokkolan Nahka. Production of Hau-Hau chews will gradually shift from China to Europe. The transition is being carefully planned and will be carried out in phases over the next few years. This allows us to ensure the continued availability of our popular chew products throughout the process.
We’re not yet able to produce everything in Finland. That’s why some Hau-Hau, PrimaDog, and PrimaCat products are made in other Vafo Group facilities across Europe.
Expertise & product development
We continuously study the needs of Finnish pet owners and their animals. Fresh, well-researched data guides us in making the right decisions.
We strive to do our work just a little better every day. We’re accelerating our product development to meet major global trends and the evolving needs of consumers. Many pet families, for example, are balancing between reducing meat consumption and ensuring their pet gets the nutrition it needs. That’s why we’re also exploring alternative sources of protein.
“We don’t reformulate recipes based on ideology or fleeting trends. Nutritional quality is based on solid research and the natural dietary needs of pets.”
